Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM)

The long-standing drought crisis in Somalia has subsided, but its impact on affected populations persists. IDP returns to areas of origin are extremely limited, as many displaced families have lost their livelihoods and are reliant on humanitarian services, which are concentrated in urban areas. People displaced to informal sites do not have basic needs met due to the inconsistent provision of services, or due to exclusion. Additionally, consistent armed conflict and climatic shock has led to an overburdening of urban IDP settlements, further limiting the number of beneficiaries accessing such services. In response, the CCCM Cluster aims to improve settlement-level coordination, ensuring access is maintained. Through community participation, beneficiary feedback, site improvement, maintenance and coordination with local authorities, the cluster can build a response. Furthermore, the cluster also monitors service delivery, mapping areas of activity in order to ensure transparency and accountability. Finally, the cluster’s Detailed Site Assessments (DSAs) are essential not only to CCCM partners, but to a wider cross-sectoral range of humanitarian actors; the DSA is one of the primary needs assessments in the country.
